I have just contacted the travel agent to see how much it will cost me to get to the next place.

Well I am sat in TelAviv Airport on my way home. Everyone has been lovely, including everyone in the airport. I got a free "scotch" from the duty free man and loads of people being really kind.
I have had a fantastic time here in Israel. It has been a fantastic week and I have enjoyed myself immensely!!
So a 4 hour flight to Amsterdam and then a hop, skip and a jump from Amsterdam to Glasgow. I don't think I am dressed for the occassion. It is so warm here in Israel and Glasgow is likely to be freezing!!

Read More......Jody and I woke up very early and took the train to TelAviv where we had a rendevous - with a Arab fortune teller!!
And she was all that she was reputed to be. After drinking very strong sweet turkish coffee, this Arab woman "read" our coffee grounds. And it was amazing - absolutely spot on with what she said to both of us!!
From there I took a taxi to Jersulem where I met Ginat and Sheldon. They took me around the markets of the outer city and then to a concert in this amazing concert hall. It was all fantastic!!

While we were at the Sea of Galillee, we had lunch at the kibbutz. A middle eastern lunch - pickles, bread, cheese and some St Peter's fish - caught from the Sea of Galillee. The same fish that Jesus is supposed to have fed the 5000 with. And it was lovely - a cross between plaice and cod!!

Today we went to the Sea of Galillee and had lunch at the kibbutz that Jody first lived in when she came her 35 years ago. It is just by the Golan Heights. Jody told me how much the kibbutz had changed over the years, how it has become more commercial. She also explained about the conflicts that have happened in this area. There is still evidence of the conflict in the gun posts and fortifications. Interesting stuff!!

And to round of the day, we went to the beach to met Jim and Lisa (and kids) and share a couple of drinks. Too dark to take any photos, but I caught this one just before the sun went down. The picture does not do it justice. The sea was a deep blue and the reds in the sky were just breath taking!!

Today we went to the "Drues Village" The Drues are a Jewish/Arab people who have lived in Israel for centuries. They have stood the test of war, boundary changes and time. They have their own culture, schools and businesses. The main products that they produce are glassware and fabrics.

Woke up the first day and had my first real view of Israel!! Jody then took me for breakfast on the beach. We had a lovely middle eastern breakfast of eggs, soft cheeses, salad and bread. Fabulous.

Jody and I arrived back at her apartment at about 4am. We were both tired out - Jody especially as she had flown from Washington the day before and had already spent 8 or 9 hours in the air and most of the day waiting. Anyway.....
Arriving in the dark, I was not able to see much of the environment.
This morning I woke up and looked out of my bedroom window....... and this is the picture.
This is the view from my bedroom

Well I left for Glasgow Airport early this morning. There was the most beautiful dawn as Julia and I set off in the car. (The dogs came with us, just so I could say goodbye at the last minute)
Got to Glasgow far to early, like I was the 1st one in all the queues (in fact for a while I was the only one!!)
So dispite my worries about plane flights, it was very smooth - a tiny little plane - a city hopper!! And I have to say that actually I enjoyed it!!
Anyway, I arrived in Amsterdam, where I had arranged to meet Jody. We are taking the flight to Tel Aviv together. Fantastic. Her flights from the States coincided, which is fantastic as I now have company on the longest leg of the journey.
I met her in the VIP lounge, where there is Internet access and that is where I am blooging from now and I've uploaded the photos of the first leg of the journey and the beautiful dawn on leaving.
Hey Alix
Well done you ...to have arranged a trip to Israel.....and of course to have built a travel blog...... we would have been very disturbed if you hadn't used your technology to prepare and be there with you every inch of the way!
Julia xx

It's all in the thought, isn't it!!
I can create magic , if I believe it, think it and feel it! I can create chaos, if I believe it, think it or feel it!! Or probably an iMix of both!!
The more I think, muse and intend this trip, the more I realise that it will be a creation of magic - if I choose to do that!!
Having had a suggestion of a bbq on a beach, I decided to go to my local beach (where I have had several bbqs)
The place is called "Red Haen" meaning Red Haven. It's probably the red-ist beach on the south Scottish coast. The photo was taken late afternoon.
I think I might be on a couple of other beaches over the next couple of weeks!!

Ok planes and all that!!
I have lots of questions. Jody has already answered several of my questions - like can I take tweezers in my cabin luggage (I'm not taking any "hold" luggage) and I can't take a gun with me or a knife lol ;)
So what else....... well it was 10 years ago that I last left the UK and about 14 years before that and like the world of communication the world of security and flight has changed too!!
Ok........ can I use my computer on the plane? Not on internet I know - but just using it, like playing a game. And I assume that I can use my iPod on headphones. My mobile has to be turned off or on flight mode. Yes?
And what plug do I need to convert my electric plugs for Israel? If I can't charge things up I'll be lost!! (Sad really!!)
Oh and....... is there good dry white wine in Haifa? I know there will be good coffee!!
And what else would be useful for me to know?

It has been really exciting making this travel blog for my trip. Not only having the space to leave posts and photos but adding all the side "gadgets" too!!
It's so different now with the Internet and all the resources that the Internet provides. Years ago, you had to go to a Travel Agent to get your ticket, you hoped it would all be in place and that you would get your flight. Once in the airport and on to the journey, communication with friends would have been sporadic and would be limited to finding a public phone box!!., the amount of photos you could take was limited to the film that you had and all in all, pretty much you would be on your own!!
Now.......... I can take as many photos as I want, I can ring people from my mobile phone, I can email you and leave messages as to where I am. You can ring me, leave comments, add contributions to my travels, see what I have been doing and see the photos I have taken pretty much as I take them. Fantastic stuff.
Also, as you will notice, I have put many gadgets on this page to help me!! Currency convertors, weather info, a language translator, details of new posts on the Abe Forum (essential!!), and linked photo maps of my travels.
So, please get involved up here and add some stuff - thoughts, comments, ideas............. it will be such fun!!
Amazing stuff!!

One of the places that is being suggested for a visit is the Sea of Galilee/Lake Kinneret (sounds more Scottish than Middle Eastern........almost - Kinneret!! lol)
BBQ on the beach? Yes please!!

Hi All
I have emailed several of my friends to ask if you would contribute to my blog while I am on my travels. I will be updating it daily (or at least as often as I get time and internet access)
Jody, I think, is planning a full schedule for my week, so there will be lots of pictures and stuff to put up...... I suspect tho I might be having too much fun taking shots, enjoying good company, seeing things I have never experienced before............. Im so excited I could burst!!

Jody.... do you live here?
In England we have a University that has a similar (in fact several similar) buildings........ it is called Lancaster University...... and the view from the M6 (a large motorway in UK) is not dissimilar to this picture!! Maybe we should suggest they "twin" universities!!
ג'ודי. תודה כ"כ הרבה לאירוח שלך ואדיבות. אני באמת מחכה בהתרגשות לבקר את הארץ היפה שלך ומחלק פעם עמך.

Lots and lots of questions:
What can I or can't I take on the plane. I have decided to just take cabin luggage (more about finding the right bag later lol)..... so question 1 is what can I take in the bag.......
My laptop has to come and all my photo gear...... and then how many articles of clothing will fit it...........
And then there is my eyebrow tweezers.... no other cosmetic item (excluding tooth=brush lol)is necessary for me........ shall I just buy a pair when I arrive in Haifa?

Well this is huge for me. I'm not a traveller (yet) and tripping around the world has not been part of my reality.
So, I've just booked flights to Israel, via Amsterdam and I'm going to stay with Jody and other Abe friends. Wooppee!! I am amazed at how excited I am.
Jody is asking me what I want to see and experience......... anything Jody!!! Just anything!!
So I intend this blog to be a record of my travels - words, sounds, pictures and joy!!
